Beyond the Moon

NASA’s next major mission— A new outpost
farther from Earth than at any time in history.
 

A gateway space craft to hover in orbit

beyond the moon, a staging area for future missions

to the moon,

to Mars.

At the Earth Moon Lagrange Point  2

the combined gravities of earth and moon
 

reach equilibrium, making it possible to “stick”

an outpost there. Potential missions include

robotic trips to the moon,

trips to the moons of Mars
and even to Mars itself.

A spacecraft beyond the moon,

human access to deep space,

a baby step toward NASA’s ultimate goal,

human footprints on Mars.

It will cost billions, but I believe that it is our destiny.  The universe is there waiting for us to explore it.  Once humans traveled to the new world; now humans must travel to new worlds.

Neil Armstrong: Moon Walker

Neil Armstrong:

    First person

          to set foot         
            on the moon.

One of the great heroes

of the twentieth century.

Neil Armstrong has died.

He was 82.

That famous step.

That famous phrase.
 

“That’s one small step for a man;

one giant leap for mankind.”

He made a contribution to knowledge,

moving the human race a little farther forward.

The Eagle has landed.

Neil Armstrong has died.

Neil Armstrong was a humble self-effacing man who was uncomfortable being called a hero. He said, “The single thing which makes any man happiest is the realization that he has worked up to the limits of his ability.”

Rover Revs Up

Elated scientists cheering.

A successful touchdown.

Curiosity on the Red Planet.

 

Thirty-six weeks in space.

A final “seven minutes of terror.”

Curiosity on the Martian surface.

 

A sky-crane operation.

A hovercraft.  A parachute.

Ingenuity and determination.

 

A leap forward for NASA.

Curiosity blazing the trail

for human footprints on Mars.

 

 

This is an incredible achievement.  There will be an amazing amount of data that will enhance our understanding of the universe.
 

The U.S. is winning gold at the Olympics, and this is like winning the gold for space exploration.

Dragon makes
the world’s first
private delivery in space.

Space X docks

its space craft
with the International Space Station.

Dragon flies

within thirty feet
of the orbiting station.

The robotic arm

grabs the capsule,
and mates it with the station’s dock.

Astronauts upload

a half ton
of food, clothing, and other supplies.

SpaceX becomes

NASA’s first
private space delivery contractor.

Private contractors

will ferry
astronauts to the station within five years.

NASA says

we’re looking at
regular services from SpaceX.

It’s a science-fiction dream come true. And you gotta love the name, “Dragon.
