Vintage Gloss

Vintage red lips
That old glamour
A Revlon color, Fire and Ice
It’s  a real blue-red
Put Fire and Ice on
Call it a day

There’s nothing like a bright splash of lipstick to me feel the glamour.

Random Love

A dose of random love
an anonymous love letter
meant for whoever chances upon it.

Hand-written love letters
brightening the day
of whoever chances upon it.

The world needs more love letters.

Love letters left
in coffee shops,
coat pockets.

bathrooms and lobbies.
in library books.
in shopping carts.

The letters find the people.

I love you
for all the amazing things you do
you think no one notices.

I love you
for the caring way you approach
everything in your life.

That’s what everyone wants to hear.

The World Needs More Love Letters is a project that encourages people to write positive notes and leave them where strangers can find them.  Read about it at www.moreloveletters.com.

Christmas

A Merry Ho-Ho-Ho,
Cheer and Good Will,
Holiday Songs, old and new,
Fun and Merriment—
Christmas.
In our hearts,
the Spirit of the Season.

Enjoy the spirit of the season.

Expecting

Prince William and Kate

Are expecting a baby,

A future monarch

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are expecting a little bundle of joy.  I wrote a simple haiku today to commemorate the news.  Great Britton is fortunate to have this couple as heirs to the throne.

Art

Art is the best therapy.

let the creative

right brain

speak with a brush.

Art is a time

to get away

from the pain.

I paint away

and hope

that tomorrow

will be better.

Feeling stressed? Give yourself the gift of creating art.  Part of my motto for 2012 is “Create Beauty.”  I do it with words, not paint, but I think it is pretty much the same thing.

The Giving Issue

Here’s a story:

A kid
is walking on a beach.
Hundreds of starfish
have washed up.

The kid
is throwing the starfish
back into the sea.

A man asks what he is doing.

The kid says
he’s throwing the starfish
back into the sea
so they won’t die.

The man says
you can’t possibly save all of them.

The kid
picks one up
and says
“Well, I saved that one.”

Think big,
but
it’s still …
just one person at a time.

This is an old story that asks the question: What can one person do?  The answer: Not much, but it is still something.

Hurricane Season -- Over?

On the last day
of the hurricane season,
a disturbance pops up
in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

No threat to Florida
No threat to any other land area.
It will drift north out to sea—
and just ...  die.

If it grows
into a tropical storm,
it will be named Valerie.

The official hurricane season ended yesterday, November 30.  Unfortunately, hurricanes don’t have calendars.

Florida was spared this year, for the seventh year in a row.  It seems the hurricanes went North this year.  I feel so bad for the victims of Isaac and Sandy; they wer hit much harder than I ever was here in Orlando.  Although, I will never forget Charlie.
