like a yuletide of high notes.
The world’s most expensive
karaoke show.
The American Idol Live! tour.

The top ten finalists

have earned this one
moment in the spotlight,
without Randy Jackson,
Steven Tyler, and J. Lo
kibitizing every lyric.

After the tour,

most of them will head
into that phantom zone
of the entertainment industry—
competing for headlining
spots at the state fair.

Like fine cheese,

"Idol" status comes
with an expiration date.

For most of the idols, their 15 minutes are just about up.  Enjoy those last few minutes, Idols! The fickle public will be moving on to the next "overnight sensation" at the start of the new season.
