Bump

With its steamy heat
and abundant thunderstorms,
Florida is bumpiest for airliners.
It can get real rough in a hurry.

The sun heats up the ground,

in an uneven fashion.
Hot air rises faster and higher
in some areas than in others.

A process called convection—

A column of heat rising,
moisture in the air condensing,
clouds forming; updrafts roiling.

Turbulence strong enough to rattle

an airliner passenger’s teeth.
On a really hot breezy day
the ride can feel like a roller coaster.                                          Please share, like, and tweet.

Keep your seat belts fastened.

Things that go bump in the sky.  As Betty Davis said in the movie “All AboutEve”, “Fasten your seatbelts, it is going to be a bumpy ride.”  (Actually, she said “bmpy night”, but it is often misquoted as “bumpy ride.”)
